Kingston upon Thames

A prosperous Anglo Saxon town, built at a fording, and later bridging, point on the Thames, it is said that Anglo Saxon kings were crowned here, on the stone which now stands near the Guildhall. There has been a regular street market here for centuries and it is now as popular as ever. The map below shows the features of the town of Kingston upon Thames as it was in the mid twentieth century.
