Devonport
Formerly called Plymouth Dock,
Devonport, in Devon, is now a district of Plymouth. Devonport merged with Plymouth and East Stonehouse
at the beginning of the first World War to form what would later become the city of Plymouth. With its own town
centre and railway station, and sports facilities, Devonport is home to
Plymouth College of Further Education. Devonport is now best known as
the location of Her Majesty’s Naval Base Devonport, commonly known as
Devonport Dockyard, the largest naval base in western Europe.
