Pembroke

Pembroke is the traditional county town of Pembrokeshire in south west Wales. One major landmark in the town is the impressive remains of the Norman Pembroke Castle, the birthplace of Henry VII of England. Pembroke and the surrounding area have close links with the early Christian Church. There are also remains of medieval shipyards for the building of wooden ships before the building of the Admiralty Dockyard. A few miles to the north lies the ferry port of Pembroke Dock, established in the early nineteenth century. The map below shows the features of the town as it was around the mid twentieth century.
