Newquay
Newquay is a popular tourist resort
on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall, with a steadily growing
population, which now stands at around 20,000. The town's early
prosperity was founded on pilchards but the arrival of the railway in
the late eighteen hundreds saw a steady growth in tourism. The town’s ten long and
very accessible beaches still prove a great draw to holidaymakers, who can
swell the town’s population fivefold in the summer, with a good
supply of hotel and guest house holiday accommodation. The town claims
to be the surfing capital of Britain and many shops and services cater
for the sport. The map below shows
